Typical interior of 70's

Do you remember Christmas full of snow? The paper chains we made as children for the Christmas tree? And do you also remember the queues for goods that were available at Christmas but only in very limited numbers and everyone wanted them? In the Dancing House Gallery you will recall all of this! As if it were yesterday...

You can visit the exhibition from November 14th, 2018 to March 17th, 2019

A unique exhibition called Retro Socialist Winter follows up on the successful Retro 70s and 80s exhibition. The gallery exhibits 1300 contemporary artifacts that come from private collections or have been lent by Barrandov Studios and Czech Television. According to the author of the exhibition, Jana Sommerová, putting everything together was hard work, and we take our hat off to her.

The show does not pretend, this is simply the way things were!

When you find yourself in a perfectly arranged socialistic kitchen, you will surely be reminded of scenes from your own life. The image of the desk in the children's room with the legendary ABC magazine, the school textbook and the unpainted Christmas paper chain will surely not be unknown to you. I fully packed Zhiguli, a family trip to see relatives at Christmas, who doesn't remember that? The thermos with warm tea and a wooden sleigh tied to the roof are a must! And what should we wear? The best is a warm sweater knitted according to Burda magazine, the one and only.

"The exhibition is for all generations. Someone will come to reminisce, others to look into the not so distant past," explains gallery Director Robert Vůjtek.

Entertainment especially for children

The exhibition will also appeal to children. They will find an interactive game room and they will be able to make carnival masks or masks of the devil and St. Nicholas. And there is also a retro mailbox in the gallery that takes letters to Jesus.

Part of the exhibition is also a private collection of toys from the 70s and 80s from the Rychnov nad Kněžnou Museum, which was established almost 50 years ago and some exhibits have never been exhibited.

Remember the old times and show the children the world you grew up in. The exhibition will last until March 17th, 2019.
