On Saturday evening the famous French fashion designer and founder of the luxury Givenchy fashion house, Hubert de Givenchy, passed away. He lived to a beautiful ninety-one years of age! This is very sad news for the world of fashion indeed. Hubert de Givenchy was an excellent fashion designer, costume artist and cosmetics designer. He was so popular and successful that he dressed the most famous stars!
The famous French fashion designer already drew sketches and designed dresses for sheer enjoyment since he was a small boy. When he was older, he decided to study an art school in Paris and began to work in the fashion industry. He cooperated with Christian Dior as well as Robert Piguet. In 1952 he achieved his dream and opened his own luxurious salon. And then came the greatest boom. As a young 25-year-old designer he shocked by his courageous and original collection, which everyone fell in love with. What brought him most popularity was the dressing of famous celebrities.
One of his faithful clients was the popular British actress, Audrey Hepburn. The designer himself likened their relationship to a marital one. They were really close and spent a lot of time together. It was this naturally beautiful brunette who became his muse and inspiration in his work for the luxury fashion world. They discussed new models constantly and, of course, he also designed outfits specifically for her. Their relationship and friendship lasted for long forty years. Later on, he was also engaged by Grace Kelly, Princess of Monaco, or Jacqueline Kennedy.
Hubert de Givenchy ranks among the great names thanks to his original ideas that he brought into the fashion world. A small revolution was caused by his dress, divided into a top part and a lightweight skirt, he promoted bold and striking colours and is considered to be the originator of the ever-popular, luxurious little black dress.
