Pure nostalgia right here. If you were lucky enough to live your childhood in the 90's, you can probably list a bunch of toys that were at the peak of their popularity at that time. In addition to a Furby plush or, in case of boys, a Beyblad, pretty much the whole class owned a virtual animal in a plastic egg. Yes, we‘re talking about the legendary Tamagotchi that motivated children to impossible tasks such as geting up at two in the morning just to give their pet a hug or something good to eat. Remember? If so, we have some good news for you. After almost twenty-three years, the popular toy is returning to the market and you‘ll be able to buy this electronic pet as soon as at the end of July. Only with a little more modern technology.
The electronic pet Tamagotchi, a popular egg-shaped toy from Japan, managed to drive almost the whole world crazy in the 1990s. The egg that could be bought in many colors back in the day is now announcing its triumphant return. North America has launched the pre-sale of a new product called "Tamagotchi On Wonder Garden", and believe it or not, people are already waiting in line to buy these pets.
"It's amazing to see those who remember the original Tamagotchi from the 90's. I am also very happy to see new young people getting familiar with their virtual pet for the first time,"
Tara Badie, brand strategy director for toy company Bandai America, said in her statement.
The original Tamagotchi had a simple black and white screen. Your goal was to look after the youngling with everything it entails. You had to feed it, clean its digital poop or play with it. The new upcoming line will include improved graphics and also offer the ability to connect to a mobile application. Pretty cool, huh? But there's more.
Take your pet to the sea!
In the new edition of "Tamagotchi On", your pet will be able to celebrate its birthday, travel, meet a friend, get married or raise children and thus expand its pedigree lineage. If you once owned a virtual friend, you're sure to remember how annoying it sometimes could be, because it required constant care. If you happened to forget about it for a while back in the 1990s, your pet died and you had no choice but to persuade your parents to buy you a new one. But the Wonder Garden line won't be that morbid. If you are busy, you can place the upgraded Tamagotchi in a hotel where it will be given full care. Too bad they hadn't invented this before! I could have saved my mom a few hundred a month.
If you're worried that the improved toy might be too modern for you, because you're not big on technology, don't despair! Many original elements from the old Tamagotchi have been preserved. In addition to the three-button design, your new friend will still "annoy" you with loud beeping. You won't get rid of the sound even if you turn off the screen. To be honest, these alarming sounds were probably the most frustrating thing about the toy. And the price? That, of course, didn't stay the same. The plastic egg no longer costs fifty crowns; you can buy it for slightly less than 1,500.
