Paul Surridge has been working as creative director for Roberto Cavalli rather briefly. His debut as such was the presentation of his SS 2018 collection. But how did he fare with his autumn collection, which was also a premiere for him?

Roberto Cavalli’s glamour girls took over the catwalk!

To open the luxurious FW 2018 collection, Paul Surridge opted for a mystical and mysterious atmosphere. This was underscored by the almost dramatic music to which the models sensuously, confidently and yet lightly moved across the catwalk. Just like a charming glamour diva should!

Paul Surridge opted for dark colours, but let his fantasy go wild in the cuts

The luxurious autumn collection bears the hallmarks of glamour style – it is bold, feminine and comfortable all at once. In its creation, Paul Surridge stuck to a darker colour palette, but this is no issue because this attribute is perfectly compensated but cut-outs, slits, playful asymmetry and patterns.

Traditional animal patterns complemented by fresh ombré

In the autumn collection, popular leopard and snake patterns are complemented by luxurious ombré, which Paul Surridge applied both to maxi and mini dresses, coats or silk blouses. The chosen combination of blue and brown, bordeaux and purple or silver and bordeaux harmonise perfectly both with autumn and with glamour style.

Mini and maxi garments to underscore feminine curves!

The luxurious collection is full of items which emphasise feminine curves and silhouettes. The maxi items are embellished with sexy cut-outs and high slits, which show just the right amount of skin. But there are also mini dresses! One of the most striking mini garments was worn by Bella Hadid.

The designer did well with the autumn collection!

So how did Paul Surridge fare with the autumn collection for this year? It was satisfactory! The outfit worn by Joan Smalls, a black asymmetric dress with a black wool bolero, was simply luxurious! Some of the weaker items which didn’t score well with us include those with head-to-toe animal patterns.

No lack of sex appeal and femininity here!

The latest collection by Roberto Cavalli did not disappoint me, nor did it particularly surprise me. On the other hand, it is actually great that there is a brand where you don’t have to worry about it losing its elements of femininity and sex appeal!

The seductive and refined outfits are suitable both for the office and for dinner with a “happy end”. This is beautifully apparent in the black dress with the deep neckline, short jacket, sexy musketeer boots and metal-embellished handbag. That’s what I call a femme fatale look, yet without being over the top! A perfect choice for an evening at La Degustation, for example. I personally wouldn’t have anything against garters either: but that is probably for gourmets only.

I also loved the bordeaux bellbottoms made of crocodile skin. I’m sure they make one’s legs infinitely long and they definitely brighten up the palette of dark colours. But I would throughout out that multi-coloured blouse worn with them. It’s awfully boring and outdated (no matter if you’re 15 or 85).
