Prague 6 has always attracted those who wanted to live in a quiet place, not far from the center, in a location that has its own charm. The district offers plenty of these exclusive places!
Of course, we all know Ořechovka, which is also a popular place to live for many celebrities. Though it might not seem so at first glance, another such place where you'll find astonishing villas is Suchdol. Take a look with us at this often unjustly overlooked Prague district, which hides a huge potential for fans of stylish and modern living.
Suchdol is unique mainly for its location (map of Suchdol). It's situated on a hill near the Vltava river, in Prague 6, far from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Ideal, if you're looking for some peace and quiet! Suchdol's location was one of the reasons why this disctrict used to be so popular with artists. Mikoláš Aleš spent part of his life on the local Brandejs farm; Suchdol still boasts his memorial and bust. František Ženíšek, Jaroslav Vrchlický or Václav Myslbek all used to come here. In short, Suchdol has always been a place full of inspiration. And even in today's modern age, it still has a lot to offer.
The best thing about Suchdol is that you'll find here everything you need for everyday life. A supermarket and a post office go without saying. Parents will be pleased to find here a nursery, a kindergarten, a parent club, a playground and a youth centre. The district's great pride is the recently reconstructed primary school - Mikoláš Aleš Elementary School. More demanding parents can put their children in the local international private institution Riverside School, which is in a walking distance.
Suchdol caters even to those, who love delicious food! The district is home to a renowned creperie, where you can get excellent pancakes, Mediterranean cheeses, crispy bruschettes and other delicacies. And what about sports enthusiasts? Next to the fact that Suchdol offers countless opportunities for walks in the surroundings or cycling trips, you can visit the CULS Sports Center, which features a gym, a swimming pool and outdoor sports grounds.
A unique Dirtpark for BMX or MTB riders has been built near the local community garden, and it soon became amazingly popular with riders big or small.
"The Prague-Suchdol district is located on the northwestern edge of the capital and thanks to the university, we have fast and frequent public transport connections to the center. At the same time, we are surrounded by beautiful corners of nature, such as Kozí hřbety, Tiché údolí, Roztocký háj or Sedlecké skály, and those we use for everyday recreation. The long-term goal of the municipal district leadership is to preserve and develop the residential character of Suchdol and Sedlec and to protect the hitherto quality environment for future generations,“ Mayor Petr Hejl told us.
Suchdol is a wonderful place for walks. We can recommeend the nature trail Roztocký háj - Tiché údolí, which will take you through beautiful nature. It passes through two protected areas: the nature reserve Roztocký háj - Tiché údolí, and the nature reserve Údolí Únětického potoka. The trail leads from Nový Suchdol to Roztoky and further through the valley of the Únětický brook to Holý vrch and continues to Starý Suchdol. You can combine the walk with a visit to Roztoky Castle.
When you reach the place called "rock garden", you will be able to enjoy a unique view of Tiché údolí, or you can relax at the viewpoint in Suchdol overlooking the Vltava River.
Do you like cycling? If so, you're going to love it here! There are two cycling trails leading through Suchdol, the A171 (Nebušice - Lysolaje - Suchdol) and A18 (Sedlec - Suchdol, with a turnoff to Tichá údolí and Únětice). Jump on your bike and visit the extraordinary Únětice brewery and many other places!
By the way, you can enjoy a magical walk, even if you don't leave the neighborhood. In addition to the already mentioned Brandejs farm, you'll find here the Trojan mill from the 13th century, which can be spotted in the TV series Byli jednou dva písaři. The remains of the old Suchdol also include a small bell tower or the pub Starosuchdolská hospoda.
If you have a car, you'll be at the Hradčanská metro station or in Bubeneč in no time. There you can choose from many modern cafés or luxury restaurants, and you'll be just a short walk away from the greatest Czech pride - the Prague Castle.
