Argan oil is produced from the fruits of the Argania Spinosa tree which grows in areas located near deserts. Varieties of argania once grew all over Africa, now they are protected by UNESCO and located in a biosphere reserve in the south-west of Morocco between the Atlantic and the Atlas and Lesser Atlas Mountains.
Extraction of argan oil is a very complicated process which is performed by hand even in this day and age. Berber women crack the kernels on stone mills and production of one litre of argan oil takes up to 20 hours. And up to 30 kg of fruit from the argan tree is needed to produce one litre of this luxury oil, this corresponding to roughly 4-5 trees. This complicated process, rarity of the argania and the beneficial effects of the oil make it the most expensive and most sought-after in the world.
Argan oil contains highly active substances such as tocopherols, carotene, essential fatty acids, vitamin A, E and F. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which protects cells against UV radiation and slows down their ageing, vitamin F hydrates the skin and hair. The oil is used for eczema, acne and burns and lends the hair vitality, strength, smoothness and gloss.
If you can find this luxury oil in its pure form, you can use it on damp skin or apply it to damp hair. Genuine argan oil must smell of nuts, have a light golden to white colour, must not be greasy and must be absorbed quickly and well. Oil like this is able to smooth out wrinkles and invigorate dull skin. The price of 100% natural argan oil is somewhere around CZK 3,000 per litre.
There are many cosmetic companies which use the beneficial properties of argan oil in their products. MarocMaroc, offering luxury products from pure organic argan oil, is based in the capital city of Rabat. Cosmetics from this brand pamper their customers and they are literally transformed into new beings under the nurturing care of its creams and serums.
Many famous people such as Selena Gomez, Madonna and Kim Kardashian have fallen for the liquid gold known as argan oil.
