If you happen to be one of those people who prefer winter to summer, or want to cash in your vacation days before the beginning of the season, we have a unique tip for you. Forget about Egypt or Thailand and give Scandinavia a chance. Been there, done that? Nevermind, there's much more to explore! For example, the resort Manshausen, located in the Steigen archipelago off the northern coast of Norway, has recently been expanded. Renowned architect Snorre Stinessen created an unusual design sauna and cabins for the resort, situated on the edge of the rocks, which makes it appear like they should crash into the sea at any moment. At first glance, they may look like from a sci-fi movie, but the interior will convince you otherwise.

Will the stormy sea flood your kitchen?

Some people are afraid of heights, some of water. The new resort on a Norwegian island is definitely not for everyone. It offers the guests an unusual experience of accommodation, and not just because of its unique location. The protruding cabins that look like tin boxes literally pull you into the Arctic landscape. During their stay, the guests may feel like the sea is going to storm into their kitchen, but the architect actually placed each cabin he designed with respect to the wave height and didn't forget to take into account both normal and extreme weather conditions, as well as the expected sea level rise due to climate change. Thanks to that, you can enjoy the view of the sea and the majestic mountains without worries, allowing yourself to relax.

The cottages were built of aluminum sheet, which can protect solid wood from exposure to salt water. The architect chose cross laminated wood as the building material.

Stalking is prohibited

The accommodation is designed for two to four people. Inside, you'll find space for your luggage, a bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room and beds, which are located in the main room by the large glazed window, which is also the dominant feature of the cottage. You don't have to be concerned about privacy, though, because the architect designed each cabin with the aim to prevent curious people from peeking in on their neighbors, enabling them to focusing more on the beauty of the landscape.

In the evening, you can go to the sauna or the relaxation zone, which also includes a lake, where visitors can refresh themselves, dip in and watch the northern lights. Should you long for physical activity, you can use the opportunity of mountain climbing, kayaking or hiking in the nature. You'll have plenty of chances to spot mountaing eagles flying over your head, as they find their home here. Last but not least, it's the perfect place to enjoy reading your favorite book - for example a Norwegian detective story.
