Animal motifs, which have been the favourite theme for Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele for several seasons now, were also the core motif in creating the luxurious collection celebrating the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Dog. It seems that this love affair is nowhere near over for Alessandro Michele.
The illustrations of the delightful Boston terrier puppies Bosca and Orsa were designed by artist Helen Downie. She is better known under her pseudonym Unskilled Worker, which she also uses on social networks.
Thanks to Alessandro Michele’s talent and Helen Downie’s vision, a whole range of articles was created through which you can express just how much of a dog lover you are. Luxurious white sneakers, caps, handbags, backpacks, wallets, watches or iPhone cases with the typical Gucci monogram, stylish satin bomber jackets, jean skirts and jackets, red items like t-shirts and sweatshirts, and not least small accessories – silver necklaces, bracelets, rings or playful keyrings.
There are several ways to express how much of a dog lover you are. The entire luxury collection includes 63 items, and it would be tough for Gucci not to match your style in at least one case.
The luxurious images were taken by young artist Petra Collins from Toronto, who lives and works in New York. She shot the campaign in the impressive setting of blossoming gardens, and the results of her work are appealing retro images.
For heaven’s sake, people. The Chinese Year of the Dog is one thing, but this dog-loving madness is entirely another. Where on earth did the comrades from East Germany make a mistake?! I haven’t seen something this infantile and ridiculous for a long time. This work, even if it were created by Leonardo da Vinci himself, doesn’t alter the fact that it is just NASTY for a lot of money.
Sweaters, skirts, handbags, wallets and mutts everywhere (and terribly drawn no less). I personally adore dogs, I have a golden retriever puppy at home and he’s my darling. But there are limits, and I don’t have to have it on my wallet.
The only thing in this collection that I find wearable are the nylon stockings with the glittery Gucci logo. Yes, those could be paired nicely with something. As for the rest, please burn it.
