The luxurious and crazy combinations

The luxurious and crazy combinations of Alessandro Michele, the Italian fashion designer who has been the creative director of Gucci since 2015, was certainly not afraid to combine seemingly incompatible styles in order to create a luxurious, surprising and sometimes borderline insane combinations. Try out a mix of styles with a dose of extravagance in the Gucci Spring/Summer 2018 women’s collection.

The glamour of the seventies

Glam rock of the seventies, in the form of glossy materials and luxurious glitter, became the dominant element of the Gucci Spring/Summer 2018 collection. The most important thing is to show glamour! Metallic textures, English tweed, vintage pieces, prominent geometric or animal patterns and maximalistic models all feature prominently. Accessories then include haircuts evoking the seventies, distinct glasses in various shapes along with jewelry and even more prominent hats and scarves.

Inspired by the eccentric Elton John

Aside from the aforementioned glam rock of the seventies, Alessandro Michele was also inspired by one of his friends – none other than the eccentric British singer, composer and pianist Elton John. This inspiration is clearly visible in a whole range of luxurious Gucci models. The EHJ initials (Elton Hercules John) for instance decorate the back side of extravagant cotton jackets with large shoulders.

Antic glam rock

The collection was introduced in a mystical and secretive style. The room was left dark and the catwalk, decorated by Greek and Roman statues, depictions of Egyptian gods, antic columns and a fragment of an Aztec temple, was lit by only a few lights. Alessandro Michele stated that he considers the specific premises, music and lights for the initial show already when creating the collection – he wants to make sure it all fits well together. An antic-themed glam rock might sound like an oxymoron, but it ended up being a very interesting show. Gucci’s take on this combination indeed added a new dimension to these, usually distant, notions.
