Location of the country with the red and white flag 

Together with the autonomous areas of Greenland and the Faeroe Isles, the country makes up one nation under the name of the Kingdom of Denmark which is regarded as one of the oldest kingdoms of all. It origins date all the way back to the 9th century. Denmark spreads out over the Jutland peninsula and is made up of several smaller islands washed by the waters of the Baltic Sea to the east and the North Sea to the west. The only land border to the south separates Denmark from Germany.

A wealth of history from the Vikings to the county being a naval superpower has left its mark almost everywhere in Denmark and fans of history are well catered for here. 

Hamlet in relation to the luxury Kronborg Castle

Kronborg is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Northern Europe, the charm of which is enhanced by its beautiful location on the coast of the Baltic Sea. It was originally a fortress which was built in the 15th century and converted a century later into a monumental Renaissance castle. At the start, it fulfilled a strategic role as a defensive structure. The relationship to Hamlet? The plot of Hamlet, one of the most famous works by the English dramatist William Shakespeare is set precisely here.

Bridges wherever you look

The Danes are by far the leaders in bridge building. The bridge over Öresund Bay is the longest bridge in the world linking two different countries. You can cross it by car or by train. The whole of this transport structure, which measures a total of 16 kilometres, took five years to build. You can get from Copenhagen to Malmö by car in about 35 minutes. Or will you be going to Sweden by boat? In addition to this, a few wind turbines rise out of the sea nearby, enhancing the overall impression which verges on the apocalyptic.

How could the world work without fairy tales?

It couldn’t. One of the greatest Danish tellers of fairy tales Hans Christian Andersen was born in the town of Odense. His most famous works include The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen and The Little Match Girl.
