Enjoy New Year's Eve despite coronavirus measures: New Year's party from the comfort of your living room!
We're all painfully aware that the current state of the world won't change overnight, which is why many club owners and organizers of public events have decided to move their parties to the online space, where millions of people around the world can participate. And what special New Year's celebrations can we look forward to tonight?
Patti Smith and the famous Piccadilly Circus
American star Patti Smith and her band will welcome the year 2021 with a ten-minute performance on the iconic largest screen in Europe in the very heart of London, Piccadilly Circus. The whole event will be streamed around the world and those interested can watch it on the CIRCA YouTube channel. We'd like to note that the event is dedicated to all health professionals who died during 2020. The performance will begin half an hour before midnight British time, which is an hour later in our country - half an hour into the new year.
Rave to the Moon
Another magnificent event was prepared by DJ Yoda, Mr Scruff, Beardyman and many others. You'll be able to hear them tonight from various places all over the world, including the Royal Albert Hall in London. Did you know that an adult dancer takes about 6,000 steps per hour during an average night? The organizers have their event thought-out quite ingeniously. If at least 16,000 people attend, chances are high that they'll take about 577 million steps together - which would take a person about as far as the Moon, which is where the name of the event comes from: Rave to the Moon. You can watch the event via Mixcloud. It starts at nine o'clock in the evening, and will run until late at night.
K-pop for the win
If you you're a K-pop fan, you definitely shouldn't miss the show featuring Korean boy bands BTS, Halsey, Lauv and Steve Aoki. If you're interested, all you have to do is buy a ticket and hop on Weverse. This event will also start after midnight; you can tune in at half past one in the morning.
Do you like David Guetta, Martin Garrix or Armin van Buuren?
The Belgian megafestival Tomorrowland has prepared a big event for New Year's Eve. They'll have approximately 25 exclusive DJs playing on four digital stages on their website. If you get a ticket, you'll be able to see musicians such as David Guetta, Major Lazer, Martin Garrix, Armin van Buuren or DJ Snoopadelic. The event will launch straight at midnight.
New Year in Times Square
New York's main Times Square Ball Drop will be a little different from how we know it this year. The coronavirus doesn't choose its victims, which is why, if you want to soak up the charismatic vibrations of the deserted streets of the Big Apple, you can check out a number of live performances from the square via free streaming. The event will be hosted by Jonathan Bennett and Gloria Gaynor has been announced to perform at midnight. The New Year in Times Square also starts at our midnight, as midnight in New York comes six hours later.
Scotland's biggest New Year's celebration has moved to a virtual setting, and with it a great selection of artists and public speakers. Viewers can look forward to a drone show; popular guests will include former Doctor Who David Tennant and the well-known Celtic group Niteworks.
YouTube and Dua Lipa
You can literally think of New Year's Eve as a celebration of the new year - after all, so does YouTube. The site hosts its own show called "Hello 2021". As part of the program, viewers will get to meet such stars as Dua Lipa, J. Balvin or Matthew McConaughey. It's important to note that the individual streams are divided into British and American ones. The British one start half an hour before the first day of January, the American one six hours later.
Iceland and the Polar Beat
Another interesting option is the Polar Beat, the largest virtual New Year's Eve party in the world. And it's going to be streamed live from Iceland! We'll be able to get carried away on the waves of music by artists such as Sigur Ros or Kaleo, or admire the Northern Lights. In order to attend the event, you need to register with your Snapchat account. Of course, this event will also take place around midnight, specifically at 0:30. Putting your New Year's Eve program together will take some thorough planning!
