Dexter Fletcher's biographical film Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton as Elton John, rightfully deserved the great ovation it received, as well as the tears shed by the audience.
Although the movie was not included in the competition in Cannes, it was one of the most anticipated films of the year. Not only Elton John himself, who also took on the role of the host, was eager to attend its ceremonial premiere - a plethora of famous faces made an appearance, such as actress Eva Longoria, Julianne Moore and Priyanka Choprou. In Czech Republice, the movie will go to the cinemas on May 30th.
Elton himself admitted after the premiere that he was thoroughly moved by the film. Will the audience also be touched enough for the movie to become a hit like Bohemian Rhapsody?
Director Dexter Fletcher admitted that even though John was supervising the filming, they both shared the same vision, namely: "Let's not make a glorifying movie, but present the bare truth instead". The story describes the time when John Elton comes to a rehab and confesses all his addictions and sins. It also reminiscences about the childhood of little Reginald Dwight, as Elton was originally named. Elton John thus allows the audience to peek into his life and see him as a little boy, suffering from a lack of parental love.
Perhaps this was where his love for music originated, enabling him to show the world the extent of his talent. At the age of four, he taught himself to play the piano only by hearing. In addition to this, the film will also show the development of the singer's friendship with Bernio Taupin, who wrote the lyrics for his greatest hits, including Your Song. He was portrayed by the actor Jamie Bell.
