Few designers are able to project as much femininity and sophistication into their creation as Elie Saab. In addition, his latest haute couture collection AW 19/20 transforms women into magical, gentle beauties and brings a breath of exotic Asia to Europe.
One can see at first glance that the FW19/20 haute couture collection is everything but boring - on the contrary, get ready for a really exciting spectacle! It is dominated by luxury models, Elie Saab's characteristic temperament and a new concept of the traditional kimono.
Elie Saab envisions the kimono as a stylish fashion piece that can be raised to an even higher level with well-chosen heels, a gold belt, feathers or sequins.
The designer chose luxury velvet and satin as his key materials. Without them, the FW19/20 collection wouldn't be the same. But tulle, opulent embroidery and particularly metal also have their place in it. A golden belt gives most creations a nice finishing touch, and many of the models are adorned with a golden headband in their hair.
Elie Saab underscored the exotic look of his models by distinctive eyelines, minimal jewelry and a sleek hairstyle. If you, too, want to rock the visage of sophisticated beauties from the other side of the globe, don't forget about purity, subtlety and refinement - these are the aspects that Asians are famous for.
Initially, the Asian-inspired collection by Elie Saab wasn't all that exciting to me. It's probably because one expects nothing but perfection from such a brilliant designer... It might have also been caused by the fact that some of the models reminded me of Natalia Portman's costume from Star Wars, where she portrayed Queen Amidala. And what's worse, I'm not a science fiction fan at all…
But then a huge turning point came! When I saw the cerulean blue Asian dressing gown gradually turning into a dress, I was carried away by an unexpected stream of enthusiasm, caused by the realization that finally, a person unafraid to show something completely different from everyone else appeared on the scene. And it WORKS like a charm! It's almost a sacrilage to wear a model like this to an ordinary "high society" party because it deserves a visit to Queen Elizabeth II in the very least!
Lastly, I would also like to mention the new roll-up arms style for evening dresses… No retro trends of the 80s, etc. This is pure 21st century fashion!
